Jeffry Leving and Mark KellyOn June 19, 2013, Attorney Jeffery M. Leving had the pleasure of meeting with United States astronaut, Mark Kelly, husband to former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. During the meeting in Mr. Leving’s law firm, Mr. Kelly was presented with Leving’s original work; an abstract-impressionist piece, “Fish Series No. 2.”Mark Kelly is best known for his involvement in the NASA space program, where during his 10 year career with the Administration he manned the final three orbital missions of the space shuttle Endeavor. Prior to his work under NASA, Mr. Kelly served as a Naval Aviator during the Gulf War. His accomplishments as a member of the armed forces include flying 39 combat missions and earning a number of distinguished accolades, including the Navy’s Distinguished Flying Cross. Additionally, during his Naval career he logged an impressive 375 successful aircraft carrier landings.Coupled with these triumphs, many people will recall Mr. Kelly from a tragic, yet inspiring event.  His wife, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, was severely wounded in an assassination attempt on January 8, 2011. After her miraculous recovery and with her husband’s support, she went on to serve three terms for her Arizona constituency in the United States Congress and push for the reform of antiquated firearms legislation, including founding of the Political Action Committee, “Americans for Responsible Solutions“— a group aimed at promoting responsible gun purchasing and ownership legislation, all the while remaining in advocacy of Second Amendment rights. Representative Giffords resigned on January 22, 2012 in order to focus on her continued recovery, leaving behind a respected legacy of fair-minded perseverance on The Hill. The couple still reside in Tucson, AZ, where Giffords served the people of Arizona’s 8th Congressional District from 2007 until stepping down honorably in 2012.
