Jeffery Leving’s Paintings Auctioned to Benefit “Twist Out Cancer”

On Wednesday April 17, 2013, Twist Out Cancer will launch its first ever “Brushes with Cancer – Pairing Artists With Survivors to Create for a Cause,” an evening that celebrates survivorship and hope through art, music and story-telling.

Twist Out Cancer will auction off two of Jeffery Leving’s unique and abstract paintings (http://levinggallery.com) at the Twist with an Artist benefit at the Floating World Gallery, 1925 N. Halsted St. Chicago, IL 60614 from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00pm.

Leving, who is the author of three groundbreaking books, most recently, How to Be a Good Divorced Dad, which garnered praise from both President Obama and Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago, will auction two pieces for “Brushes with Cancer” at the gallery.  Josh Hoff of International Art Magazine wrote concerning Leving’s paintings – “If suffering is indeed permanent, obscure, and dark and shares the nature of infinity, then it can be witnessed in Chicago attorney artist Jeffery Leving’s paintings.” Leving’s visceral, gestural expressionist pieces tap the unspoken psychological content of struggle and transcendence, combining forms and figures with primitive markings and surreal spaces, all bound together by a serene compositional economy. His paintings reflect the spiritual struggle that men face trying to find their footing in the contemporary world and to journey through the world in a way that honors their sense of self-worth as well as the needs of children to be respected and cared for.

Attorney Jeffery Leving is known worldwide for his legal work protecting fathers’ rights, from helping to reunite Elian Gonzalez with his father in Cuba to being awarded the National Lifetime Call to Service Award by President Barack Obama. Those who live in Chicago and New York know that Leving is also a gifted abstract painter and intrepid hunter of historical artifacts.
